Thoughts For Today
“Today you have proclaimed the Lord to be your God, and that you will walk in His ways and keep His statutes, His commandments and His judgments, and that you will obey His voice. Also today the Lord has proclaimed you to be His special people, just as He promised you, that you should keep all His commandments and that He will set you high above all nations, which He has made, in praise, in name, and in honor and that you may be a holy people to the Lord your God just as He has spoken” (Deuteronomy 26:17-19). The word special means possession, personal property, and special treasure. This word occurs eight times in the Old Testament. Five of those times refer to His people, Israel, as God’s special treasure. In two references it speaks of the prized possession of kings or royal treasures. Malachi 3:17 calls us God’s jewels. It is so very comforting to know that not only have we chosen Him to be our King, but He has also chosen us to be His special people. We are precious to Him and even though the material wealth of this world may be what men consider important, God’s treasures are found in His people.
