The Covenant-Making God.

Two nights ago while spending time with my family outside there were literally thousands of stars visible, and I was reminded if the story of Abraham in Genesis 15:

After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.” But Abram said, “Lord God, what will You give me, seeing I go childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?” Then Abram said, “Look, You have given me no offspring; indeed one born in my house is my heir!” And behold, the word of the Lord came to him, saying, “This one shall not be your heir, but one who will come from your own body shall be your heir.” Then He brought him outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.” And he believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness. (Genesis 15:1-6 NKJV)

I have always been blessed by this portion of scripture, but while I was re-reading it, I noticed that Abraham asked, "how will I know you will do this for me?" And it is here we see the  blood covenant God made with Abraham insuring He would do what He had promised. Gen.15:10-21

I love the fact that God put Abraham to sleep while he made the covenant. God declaring His promise was based upon His ability to perform not Abraham's! The same is even more true for us as followers of Christ, but we have a better covenant!

I found a powerful scripture that said that God's will for our life is based upon our covenant with Christ and His ability to perform, and not ours.

Now, may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever, Amen. (Hebrews 13:20, 21 NKJV)

Be blessed knowing that our God is a covenant making, covenant keeping God who will, no doubt, perform everything He promises you!
